One of the worst temptations faced by legislators is the perceived need to claim credit by pointing to “new laws passed” or added to the books. As a result, we build up over time a thicket of laws, many of which may be obsolete, unnecessary, or even counter-productive. I’d like to change that dynamic by committing to run at least one bill each session that cuts red tape, repeals unnecessary or even harmful legislation, or otherwise simplifies the Utah Code. So, fire up your chainsaws, sharpen your scissors, and let’s get to work!
